Smoke Free Living

What more can we say about smoking that you haven’t already heard?

The bottom line is that smoking is a serious hazard to your health. As many smokers who’ve tried quitting will agree, it’s also one of the hardest heart health lifestyle factors to conquer. But even though quitting isn’t easy, it is possible. Talk to your doctor and turn to family and friends for support. You can do it!

Kick the Habit One Day at a Time

Trying to quit smoking? Fight it one day at a time. You don’t need to be strong enough to not smoke next week or next year. Just say no today. Don’t worry about tomorrow. A good offense: Remember, relapse is easy if you are (a) tired (b) hungry (c) drinking alcohol (d) angry or (e) lonely. So get plenty of rest and good food, avoid alcohol, resolve your differences and reach out for someone to talk to.

Tip: Be ready to brave the cravings, which subside in 1 or 2 minutes – take a deep breath, hold it for a few seconds and exhale slowly.
